In New York it always feels like we go straight from winter to summer because it is super cold, ….and then hot! But, we have been lucky and have had some wonderful spring days.
At the shop, we have started to carry an amazing clothing line called Magnolia Pearl. It is super whimsical, fun and funky! We we are expanding our Jaded Gypsy clothing section and we have some really fun jewelry and t-shirts from J. Coons too.
Our coffee shop is really coming along. We still need to hook up the coffee makers and espresso machine. And we need to figure out which ice maker we will go with, but I am happy with the progress so far! We have had many friends help us out and could not be more grateful to them all!
Workshops are in full swing and we are always introducing new classes.

I was left alone, unsupervised and I started scrolling “the book” and …..I found a beat up 1969 VW bus. And I just could not help myself! We are going to use it as a landmark in front of the shop! Sure, it is a bit nasty at the moment …. Okay… very nasty- but with a little help from some talented friends…. It will be pretty cool. We will replace the lights, figure out what to do with the broken glass….. but we’re excited to plant flowers around it and paint it…. with Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, of course.
Annie Sloan released her Satin paint in 2022. It is a beautiful paint that does not require a top coat. It has velvety, smooth durable finish.
But something we wanted to share was a message from a customer who wrote, “I recently purchased the Annie Sloan Athenian Black Satin paint, and painted two beds with it. The question I have is: Wherever you touch the beds, it leaves a whitish smudge from the contact. Is this something that will change after the paint has cured, or do you think I will need to buff or seal the paint? I was surprised, since I thought the satin is supposed to be good to go without a sealant…. What do you recommend?”

You are not alone, this has been a complaint from others. First, the paint needs to cure fully before regular use which is stated in the directions on the back of the can. Most customers and painters have reported that the marks do wipe away. I have successfully wiped smudges off the pieces I’ve painted in Athenian Black with both a damp or dry cloth. I do not recommend scrubbing of any kind during the curing period. You do not need to worry about a top coat, it’s completely unnecessary and will change the beauty of the sheen. I hope this helps

We are going to use this color with Annie’s White Wax to paint our cabinets in our brand new coffee shop we are opening. Coolabah Green is named after the Eucalyptus coolabah tree, this is a grey-green paint with a blue tone, inspired by Annie’s childhood in North Sydney where she remembers the wonderful smell of the elegant native Eucalyptus. Annie says, “I’ve wanted to create this colour for a long time; it’s a colour that’s been missing from my range of grey-greens. My existing grey-greens all have a more yellow tone, but Coolabah Green has a blue tone, an ‘eau de nil’ feel… My aim was to mix the colours to match the leaf colour of the evergreen Eucalyptus tree, which I love and have lots of fond memories of from my childhood”.
Whistler Grey was inspired by the beautifully atmospheric paintings of 19th century American-born artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Whistler Grey is an attractive, warm grey that complements lighter tones and pastels, sitting between Paris Grey and Graphite in terms of tone.

“I felt like my range of greys needed another colour, and one that was different from my charcoal colour Graphite,” explains Annie. “My context for colours is always art, paintings and nature – these are the things that inspire me and where my ideas come from.”
Like all Annie’s colors- it is available in the smaller container of her Sample Pots.
Seriously! We feel this gray was so needed! It is a little darker than a medium tone between Annie’s Paris Grey and Chicago Grey or lighter than Graphite and Athenian Black. Whistler Grey is a nice nuetral grey in that we feel it is not a cool tone or a warm tone.

WHAT IS THE PLASTIC SAFETY LID LOCK FOR?
In order to ensure safety that the lid of the gallon of paint does not pop off when in transit via UPS or FedX, we add a white plastic safety lid lock as a safety seal to the gallons. They are super secure and not easy to remove – which is good because it means it will be difficult for that can of paint to open by itself.
It takes a little finesse to remove the lid and it is best to use a wrench like the one shown in the photo or video below.
