Using Cheesecloth To Remove Excess Annie Sloan Wax on Cabinetry

Watch our HOW TO video here!

Are you using light colored Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® on your cabinets and Annie’s Clear Wax for the top coat? If yes, then you really need to watch this HOW TO video about using Cheesecloth to remove the excess.

It is the Bee’s Knees and really will make a big difference in the outcome. (and Yes! You can use this on any of your other projects but on cabinetry….IT IS A MUST!) You always want to shake off the towel prior to using. We just don’t recommend using Cheesecloth for the fist application of clear wax over dark colored paint since Cheesecloth may catch slightly on the porous paint leaving a trace of white fuzz. Hope this makes sense and consider subscribing to our YouTube channel!

Can you help me?

Can you please help me? Seriously….I am asking for a huge favor. I am in the running for a grant from Federal Express which will really help with the building of a new bigger location that will offer weekend workshop retreats and have space for lots of inspiration and promote local artists. This is a dream and I am hoping you can help it come true. First it starts out with having people vote for my business. CLICK HERE to vote for me.

Our whole business has been but around helping people. Sure, we sell paint – but it goes much further than that. I wanted to inspire people and give them a way to escape their lives with painting. I help our customers with HOW TO information on painting their cabinets and furniture but when we help people transform pieces of furniture- believe it or not, we also help many of our customers transform themselves. Either getting their self confidence into alignment by completing a project and having it turn out in a way that surpasses that your expectations or just creating an overall rewarding experience. We go beyond surface level guidance! My entire focus from day 1 – was to be the best at customer service. Sure, many businesses talk about providing customer service, but we live it. Our business phone is our personal cell number so all of our customers can reach us at any point of time for assistance and support for the products they purchase from us or that encouraging word that they need. I have always wanted to be approachable and share our energy and our creative life style with our customers….who are our Purple Painted Lady family. We don’t worry about other businesses who do things similar to us…we keep our eyes in our own lane and focus on what we can do better, on how we can show up in a bigger way and intrigue our customers. We don’t just have customers….we build relationships and inspire and they become part of The Purple Painted Lady Family.

We also have a stake in the local artisan community. We have hosted an event for the last eleven years that brings together over 350 artists annually in September. If we were to upgrade to a larger space- we could collaborate all year long and host more events through the year. Through our annual September event, we have been able to contribute financially back to the local community significantly. We want to grow this more.

So, here it is. Super simple- just click on the highlighted link and please, vote daily till March 24th. I know this is a lot to ask….. …but, if you have it in your heart- could you please help me? CLICK HERE to vote for me

This would allow us to do some pretty amazing things for you! My fingers are crossed… my toes are crossed… heck, even my eyes are crossed.

Thank you…thank you…thank you!

XO~ Trish

Versailles Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan

Versailles Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan is such a pretty spring color.

We feel it is definitely a neutral color. It has a slight tinge of a muted green (I wouldn’t say celery…. but …. as a stretch… maybe a little) with a slight yellow to it. Almost a Celadon.

Versailles plays really well with any color you pair it with. In fact, it will lend itself to the personality of other colors. For example, pair Versailles with Rodmell and Emile.

Or how about Versailles with Duck Egg Blue and Antoinette.

Or lastly, Versailles paired with Aubusson Blue?

Annie got her inspiration for Versailles from vintage French furniture and gilded antique stores for this color.

And did you ever wonder color you would get if you mixed Versailles Chalk Paint® one to one with every other Annie Sloan color? Well………BAM! Here you go!

Amsterdam Green Chalk Paint®

Let’s talk about Amsterdam Green Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. I love this color. I feel it is very current and has a great vibe to it! Lots of energy but without feeling exhausted if looking at it for a long period of time. To me, it seems like a neutral because it grounds a space.

According to Annie Sloan, Amsterdam Green is a strong, deep green that takes inspiration from painted shutters and doors in Amsterdam and throughout Europe. It is a stylish minimal colour that has made a return to the interior colour palette. It works particularly well with whites and creams and botanical imagery and plants, as well as looking brilliant with earthy yellows and reds – try teaming it with Primer Red, Arles and Old Ochre. It’s also makes a great backdrop to cool blues, such as Provence, Giverny and the purple tones of Emile.

On a side note, I personally love Amsterdam Green with Annie’s Black Wax. I feel this color brings energy and a sense of freshness to a space. It makes me get excited about spring and the lush greens and rebirth of plants around me. Consider trying a pop of color in your home. If you are shy – use it on a piece in a foyer or a powder room or just an accent chair. You will still be playing it safe and it won’t push you too hard out of your comfort zone if you are conservative and lean more toward neutrals in your home. I love this paired with Antoinette.

Below is a photo showing pieces of crown molding painted with Amsterdam Green Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. Both boards have a coat of Annie’s Clear Wax completely over them. Then, beneath the Clear Wax = it showcases the Dark Wax. The board behind shows the White Wax on top and Black Wax on the base.

The image below shows what Amsterdam Green looks like when mixed with other Chalk Paint® colors. We took Amsterdam Green and mixed equal parts of it to equal parts of each other color. We then painted a swatch and placed it in the spot of the name of the paint it was mixed with.

The bathroom vanity below was completed by Danielle who has a great business called Doodle and Jack.

Using Annie Sloan’s Tinted Waxes to Get Different Looks

Here is a great example of how using Annie Sloan’s tinted waxes can make a big impact with just one Chalk Paint® color like Honfleur.

Honfleur Chalk Paint® is a MILK CHOCOLATE BROWN. ….DARK BROWN. Think Easter Bunny Chocolate!

We love how David Burkhart used Annie’s White Wax strategically on the outside of the dresser and then Annie’s Black Wax on the inside section to create a contrast.

Annie’s White Wax has the consistency of cream cheese frosting. And although it is not edible, it always makes me crave frosting.
