We were at the Rochester Home and Garden show on March 25 & 26, 2017 that happened at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Every year you can find us in the lower ballroom.

The year we had two large pieces of furniture that we demonstrated using Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan on.

Our focus was sharing information on how to transform your dated kitchen cabinets using Annie’s products.

Primer Red Chalk Paint® on a Basement Door

Ooh- check out this beautiful transformation by Anne Semel of Rochester, NY!

Anne and her hubby are super resourceful and talented when it comes to home DIY projects. They have pretty much gutted and renovated a huge amount of their home.

This plain wood door is in Anne’s basement which they are in the process of refinishing.

Anne chose to use Primer Red Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan to bring it into the 21st century. Primer Red is a brownish, barn red. Since red earth pigments were plentiful and relatively easy to come by centuries ago, and only people with significant wealth had the funds to paint their interior or exteriors- left over paint was always saved and dumped into a community bucket- that the painter would use to “prime” for his next job. After mixing many left over colors from various paint jobs- all with a similar earthy color to them – you would get a similar color to this. So, this color is often associated with the color for priming furniture and as the base coat for gilding.

Anne painted her door with a couple coats of Primer Red, and then Anne applied a coat of Annie Sloan’s Clear Wax. and then applied a coat of Dark Wax.

Florence Chalk Paint®- take a look at this beauty!

We really enjoy seeing “before & after” photos from our customers and here is an amazing transformation done by Michelle Siefker using Florence Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan.

Here is a BEFORE photo of Michelle’s bed.

Michelle used Annie Sloan’s Florence Chalk Paint®.

Florence, according to Annie Sloan, “was inspired by the colors of the copper green mineral and semi-precious stone, malachite, and from the same family of stones as azurite and turquoise. In the 17th and 18th century it was used as a color made with verdigris but as it is a very fugitive color turning black with time so we are not aware of how it was used on woodwork in many houses. It is a classical color found in classical Italian furniture.”

The Purple Painted Lady loves this color because it reminds her of the beautiful green-blue ocean in Honduras!

Michelle first used Florence Chalk Paint®…and then she applied Annie Sloan’s clear wax first…then the dark wax all over, rubbed that away and then clear wax as the final coat, buffed to a sheen.

Gilding by Annie Sloan

The Purple Painted Lady is excited to announce the suite of NEW GILDING by Annie Sloan!

Add a metallic touch to your painted furniture with Annie Sloan Gilding Wax.

Apply to ornate carvings and mouldings to enhance texture and detailing, or use with your favourite Annie Sloan Stencil to create gilded shapes, lines and designs.

Annie’s gilding can be applied with a lint-free cloth, a brush or your fingers!

Gilding is always applied last- I like to use the analogy…like roses on a wedding cake! You do not go back and frost all over the cake once your decorative roses have been applied. So, do not apply clear wax over your gilding, unless you are trying to “erase” or remove it.

Gilding comes in 15ml tubes.

The Colours are:

Warm Gold, Bright Gold, Bright Silver, Dark Silver and Copper.

Before & After Chalk Paint® on a Worn Leather Chair

YES! You can paint old worn leather!!!

Look what Stacey Denniston from Palmyra, NY did!

Primer Red CHALK PAINT and clear wax by Annie Sloan transformed this tired leather chair into a fresh piece for Stacey Denniston’s home. Stacey said she loves the feel because it’s just like leather. You can do this too!
