On the table, I used Pearl Plaster, ASCP in Old White, and a little Scumble to thin it out so my drying time was longer. I found that when I used a brush, it left brush marks that I really didn’t like so I went to garage and looked around for something to use: a putty knife!! Perfect!! When I applied my mixture, my knife was almost flat to the table and I always put a little pressure on the knife to make it smooth. It wasn’t perfect, but I didn’t want it that way. On the base of the table, I used ASCP in CoCo and then applied thinned plaster directly over the paint.
Glamorous is my middle name. (Not really, but it should be!)
The chairs have my heart though. I found them at Goodwill and they were still pricey because they were HENREDON chairs!! I. could. not. pass. them. up! Never in my lifetime will that ever happen again, I’m sure.
I painted the entire chair in ASCP Old White to match the table. It took about 4 coats on the fabric because the color kept bleeding through. I was persistent though and finally succeeded.
Helpful Hint When Painting Fabric: Let completely dry between coats.
I used clear and dark wax to age the chairs and they were beautiful, but not quite right. They were a little dull and I wanted that glamorous almost shabby chic look so I treaded lightly on using the plaster, but bravely went to it. I was nervous about using it over the wax and because I had thinned it down, I wasn’t certain how it would take. It did give the wax a challenge, but after a couple of coats of plaster I found SUCCESS!! I used the same mixture I used on the table (ASCP in Old White, a little Scumble, and little pearl plaster and painted all the wood again. After the plaster dried, which doesn’t take very long, I used the dark wax again and aged the chairs right over the plaster. Ta da!!! Perfect!!!
