“GET YOUR FRENCH ON” Workshop ~ French Typography Painting Class

This class is focused on using Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan.

You bring in a painted piece of furniture like a chair, small side table, smaller dresser that painted with Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan- Clear Wax on all sides EXCEPT the side that you are going to “decorate” with the detailing.

We will also discuss and demonstrate our Transfer Gel by Artisan Enhancement as another option.

Workshop cost is $125 and it covers studio time, materials and instruction.

A large selection of French Designs and Typography provided to choose from- similar in size so maintain balance of project scope among all in the class.. For a small fee- image can be customized. Detailing will be completed in one color and a sample pot of the Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan you selected will be provided as a gift for you to take home.

50 Shades of Grey Painting Party

This class is focused on using Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan and – if you can stand the conversation without blushing- a book review of this infamous book! Do we dare? Oh yes!

You bring in a smaller sized piece of furniture or accessory like a wood dining chair, small petite side table, picture frame – and we will be painting with Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan. Either Paris GREY, Country GREY, Chateau GREY…or a combination making “Shades of Grey!” Piece should be small enough in size to be painted on top of a workshop table.

B.Y.O.L. (Bring Your Own Lunch) Although I will have some beverages and snacks, and there is a great Chinese Take Out next door to me. Take the day off and don’t worry about making your lunch- unless you want to!

Pending the size of your project and the amount of time required to paint it OR how much time you spend talking about Christian Grey – “waxing” (oh my!) of your piece may or may not be able to be completed in the duration of the scheduled workshop. Wax tins are available for sale- if needed to do at home.

“ReFunk YOUR Junk” Workshop

What does “ReFunk YOUR Junk” mean? You have a piece of furniture and perhaps it is just stained wood. You would rather have it look French Country or Shabby Chic. This workshop is for you! It will be a day workshop- with lunch included. 1 to 2 paint colors, brushes, lint free rags, sand paper, rubber gloves and waxes are supplied. All of Annie Sloan’s beautiful Chalk Paint colors are at your disposal…so there is no limitation – especially when you consider the dark wax available basically multiples all options by 2! Residual materials remain the property of The Purple Painted Lady. All projects must be approved by The Purple Painted Lady prior. Approval is first based on furniture size- think coffee table, small side dresser, occasional table. (not dining room buffet or hutches) Secondly, the complexity of your project. This is a group workshop so as so to maintain a balance of my time among all students- the scope of your project needs to be within the duration of the class Note that the GROUP WORKSHOP is NOT a workshop where you will be doing landscape portraits, or being taught multiple whimsical patterns. This class is focused on using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and ending the day having a piece transformed. Chalk Paint BASICS Workshop

In this hands-on introductory workshop you will not only have FUN! But you will learn the “basics” of using Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paints and Soft Waxes by Annie Sloan. This paint is not one dimensional and there is so much functionality in it- let us show you how to take advantage of that and create pieces that will be drop dead gorgeous! check out the sample boards that were done at our October 2012 class.

All supplies will be provided. First you will learn about making a glaze/stain using Annie’s soft, dark wax. Then you will be painting a one and two-color technique- showing you how to add a little dry brushing for effect and creating a wash. A very important finishing step in regards to distressing – sharing our tips & tricks and making sure you can create a professional effect. Lastly- we will focus on using Annie’s wax! Hands on training on how to age and tone your finishes with clear and dark waxes and the proper application process is so critical and we don’t just tell you or show you how to do this. We have you do this yourself in the workshop! (applying the wax is often the biggest issue Chalk Paint™ users have- what is learned in this workshop will eliminate that from happening to you!)

You will leave the workshop with your own sample boards and the confidence and skills to tackle your own projects.

Wet Distressing MINI Workshop

In this hands-on mini-workshop you will learn the basics of wet distressing. The “why” would you want to do that, the “when” is it necessary, and the “how’s” among l of your other questions will be answered. You will practice the fundamentals on a funky French home accessory that you then can use in your home or give away as a gift. This workshop will include some painting using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ brand decorative paints. All supplies will be provided. IT’S A CHAIR AFFAIR….WITH ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT

Bring a dining room size chair that is in need of a facelift and with little or no prep using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Wax, you will learn how to transform and update your furniture. We’ll also be demonstrating a few techniques. Leave with your transformed chair and a sample pot of paint in your color of your choice! No experience necessary. CLASS SIZE: The class capacity is a maximum of 8 people and a minimum of 3- exceptions may be made based on my schedule- however, this would not set a precedent. DURATION: This workshop runs around 2 hours…but could go over a bit based on questions asked- which is very positive. Please try to get here at least 15mins prior to class starting. * I will supply light refreshments- but feel free to recruit girlfriends to take the workshop with and bring your own bottle of wine!

Learn how to do a Harlequin Layout! Harlequin Diamonds are so fun and whimsical- and not as difficult as you think to do. Perfect for the top of a dresser, side of a dresser, your floor, your wall, …you name it- you can paint it! Come on in and bring the piece you want to paint and then we can help you start the layout. Obviously- duration of workshop and size of your piece will determine if you will complete the total layout at The Purple Painted Lady. I would like to clarify- this class focuses on drawing the lay out and how I approach this project. To make this workshop worthwhile- bring in a piece to work on- If you do not have one- buy a cheap side table at the VOA or Salvation Army or Craigslist. Since you will not want to paint over the lay out- make sure your piece is ready to be decorative painted once layout is completed. What does this mean? Well, you will want to have your piece all prepped and ready for the lay out. So if you are using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint- just go ahead and paint it. If using latex paint – please sand your piece a bit, prime it and then base coat it in the color of your choice. That way once you can complete the actual layout- you can go home and paint it! Hands on training is always BEST! We will discuss painting techniques but will not be painting in this short workshop. As for finishing the lay out at home in case your piece is large…have no worries- you will have the knowledge to finish this at home. Advance registration and payment is required to reserve a spot. COST: $30 DURATION: This workshop runs between an 1.5 to 2 hours.

SINGLE SWIPE Painting Workshops! ~ STROKE OF GENIUS! (this would make a GREAT bridesmaid party or Girl’s Night Out!!!!! – BYOB of wine and munchies and make a party of it!)

You asked for it- and I am delivering it! ~ BYOB of wine and munchies and make a party of it!) This is a workshop where the end product will vary based on the season we are in- and since it is fall- a fun faux pumpkin will be the featured accessory or perhaps your class will be a new lamp and you will be painting the lampshade to compensate for the darkness that comes too early now. Later this winter- we will bring in vintage sleds! Either way- come and learn the basics, tips and tricks to get this effect and take a completed pot home.

Whatever it is we will be painting in your class- the item will be primed and have the laid out completed that way you can focus on just learning & painting. Single swipe painting adds depth and interests to anything you paint! This can be done in any color combination- so please let me know prior so I can have the correct colors available! And this technique is perfect to expand on to create flowers, leaves, or to paint diamonds or stripes (set your imagination free and paint whatever you would like)

Kitchen Cabinet ReFAB Workshop

Ready to freshen up your kitchen but not interested in spending $1000′s to have it gutted or overhauled by a private contractor? Then this class is for you!

A prerequisite is setting up an appointment and working with Trish on selecting your color choices, creating your Chalk Paint™ material list and purchasing your product. At the time of consult, you should bring in one of your cabinet doors so we can talk about exactly how to approach your project! (and don’t worry if you need guidance on creating a design plan. Trish is a 3 time Rochester Homearama Designer/artist and can assist you in this FUN process. And that is totally correct- it is fun and we want you to enjoy the transformation journey! Trish can even help you with decisions down to suggestions for hardware and accessories to add after the painting is done!)

It is important to bring in one cabinet door prior since depending the type of cabinet you have- like stain versus painted, raised panel versus grooved will determine the process Trish will develop for you. Also- please bring in something or multiple color inspiration pieces that will drive your Chalk Paint™ color selection. Example of items that could be used- are a piece of your china, art work in the space, or photos of other kitchens that you love taken from magazines or on-line! This design process cannot be done in class- since the focus will be actual execution of painting and the design plan – versus design consulting. Design consulting is just a bonus and additional service you receive after payment for class has been received.

In this workshop we will using Chalk Paint™ Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan and we will teach you- in a hands on approach how to transform your cabinetry using either a one or two color technique. You bring one cabinet door and by the time the workshop is over- you will have a finished piece and the skill to complete your whole kitchen.

This is a group workshop so as so to maintain a balance of my time among all students- the scope of your project needs to be within the duration of the class. Cabinet doors should be no bigger than 17 inches wide and 24 inches long.

PRIVATE LESSON – THE BOMB~

The PRIVATE LESSON – THE BOMB class- is basically exactly what I will be covering in the Group Workshop- using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. But in the private lesson- all my time and attention is spent with you one on one while you paint and finish your piece with me helping – for example- you could be working on one side- and I on the other. HOWEVER- since I am focusing 100% of my attention on you- there will be more hands on help when it comes to the finishing process of your piece- such as choosing a distress, aged, antiqued finish. This would NOT be a lesson where I am teaching you painting techniques to paint landscapes, or detailed whimsical designs- but that is not to say- if we have extra time- I would not discuss those ideas and techniques! (BUT you should consider taking the the workshop called ONE BRUSH STROKE Painting since the technique will be the focus here- BUT on a smaller scale like a pumpkin versus a buffet! Keep in mind- it is the same technique though- and you can extrapolate to do a bigger piece.) You select and purchase paint, wax and brush. DURATION: This private lesson lasts anywhere from 4-5 hours. (this excludes travel time) This is an excellent option if you would like to do more pieces in the future and are the type of person who asks lots of questions. A piece of furniture that could be done – could be a smaller hutch or buffet- a dining table. Dimensions and photo of piece must be sent to me prior- along with the design plan to ensure it fits into the parameters of this class. $250.00 in my studio $275.00 in your home within 20 miles of Macedon (Fairport area) of New York.* Additional distance quoted separately. BIRTHDAY Painting Parties

Starting for those ages 8 and older (my apologies- NO exceptions for littler one’s). Party will consist of an art craft such as painting a canvas portrait of themselves, or a sports theme, sunflower – or faux painting of a large letter (perhaps the initial of each of their first names.) Topic will be selected prior and price varies based on materials required. Each party participant will have their art as a keepsake from the party. Then- all will enjoy Birthday Cake (supplied by you from a certified bakery) and the ceremony of opening presents. The Purple Painted Lady will set up and clean up for a stress free celebration that you get to relax and enjoy! CLASS SIZE: This party capacity would be for a maximum of 8 guests and a minimum of 5 – exceptions may be made based on my schedule- however, this would not set a precedent. In order to provide the maximum space for a parties we ask that there be a maximum of three additional non-painting guests (chaperones.) DURATION: 2 hours and scheduled during non-store hours – Additional time available $25.00 per half hour COST: Cost is $15 per party person. With a $50 deposit due at time of reservation.
