Trish, I purchased a new, raw and wooden highchair to paint. I am guessing it is poplar or pine. There is a knot under the lid that doesn't show. How should I prepare the surface...shellac the whole thing first or use a primer of some sort before I add the chalk paint? Thanks in advance.

I need help! I have a custom job (my first BTW) and she wants it done in ASCP Old White with a brown top and distressed. What is the best way to distress it? Give it a coat of the brown that I'm going to paint the the top in then cover with Old White then lightly sand before clear waxing?

How would you like a detailed post showing 4 ways to use Dark Wax? I have information written on my website here about Dark Wax => http://www.thepurplepaintedlady.com/2012/07/dont-be-afraid-of-the-dark-dark-wax-by-annie-sloan-that-is/ .... but I think we need visuals. I have 4 matching cabinet doors that I will paint and then demonstrate the dark wax on...using it straight over dried clear wax, applied over moist clear wax, applied after dipping tips of the wax brush in Mineral Spirits and applied as a glaze. Sound helpful to you? If yes...LIKE below and this will be my homework for next week! : )

Hi Tricia and Adrienne
Just received my "clear wax" brush - the big fat one and my Purdy 2 1/2" flat brush. My husband wanted me to know someone had addressed a box to me calling me "awesome." I've never been awesome to anyone other than my Heavenly Father and maybe my grand babies. So thank you. That is so nice. Count me as a new customer. I love your You-tube sites. They are awesome. Oh there's that word again! So thank you again. I love my brushes. And don't worry I will take good are of them.

My husband and I LOVE our piano that I painted with Annie Sloan Old White and Napoleon Blue. Isn't it beautiful???? I can't say enough great things about Tricia--she was SUPER helpful throughout the entire process! She helped me decide on what colors to use, and she answered texts and even called me when I had questions about the painting process. Thank you, Tricia! I will be buying more A.S. chalk paint from you in the future.

My store move is done- let me know if you would like to connect about having you at the Barn Sale & Junk Jubilee happening on 9/21/13. I will be at Lento event next week too- in case you want to connect then. Thanks and excited to meet you!
Distress before OR after waxing, that is the question. You can distress prior to waxing or after. There are reasons on when you might want to distress after, however, I typically distress before. If you sand before waxing- it will be less work since you are not sanding through the wax application. If you sand before waxing though- the Chalk Paint® that you are removing with the sand paper will turn into a fine powder and settle down on the floor...put a drop cloth down to save on mess. AND never- use a damp mop to clean up the particles! The moisture will turn the powder into a wash and you will get the color all over your floor. If you sand AFTER waxing- it takes a bit more elbow grease, and you will probably want to add another layer of clear wax to protect the raw areas you sanded...but if this is your first time ever painting and distressing...by having a wax application on the painted piece first- you won't accidentally take off too much paint, as you learn how to finesse the sand paper with the right amount of pressure. Also-(and for example) if you painted a piece in Graphite while it is sitting in an all white room that has white carpet, I would still put a drop cloth down and distress after waxing. If you sand after waxing, you will see you have less dust since the wax and paint removed seem to stick more onto your sandpaper. Hope this helped!

The Purple Painted Lady is very excited to welcome K. Higgins & Co. to our 9/21/13 Barn Sale & Junk Jubilee!! You will find Vintage-inspired Art Charms & Custom Photo Jewelry at this artist's tent! Get there early, otherwise I will buy her out of all her creations. I LOVE HER WORK! Visit her Facebook page and let her know The Purple Painted Lady sent you!
Do I have to put on the wax before I distress the piece? I started sanding then I stop and thought I better ask.

I own a small business and have a shop in the village in Macedon. I paint furniture and kitchens and sell decorative paint products and a medley of over home decor items. Can you email me more information about what the Rochester Women's Network has to offer? Is there a membership fee? Monthly meetings? Thanks so much. takuntz@rochester.rr.com

We sell online! I am always receiving emails asking if we sell Chalk Paint® or Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint on line. The answer is YES! We do, and in fact- we always try to ship same day as long as the order was received early enough and include instructions with every product packaged. Of all the other things we have at our shop for sale - I have to share....we have the most amazing candles. They are online too. They burn over 155 hours, and have an incredible scent that will not give you a headache. (lots of candles do that to me.) The Lemon Custard is my favorite! Happy Tuesday! http://www.thepurplepaintedlady.com/shop/
