Ahh- Old White. It is the quintessential color to have in your painting pantry! It is the perfect color in that it plays perfectly with every other color! It is not too white and it is not cream!
The color of chalk and gesso, a soft white without pink or yellow in it. The most popular Chalk Paint® color by Annie Sloan sold at The Purple Painted Lady. Again, a color which works with everything, but for the classic French look, use it over Paris Grey. I personally love Louis Blue with Old White!
We also suggest adding it to the other colors to make them the exact tone for your room or creating entire new colors. The crown molding shown below is coated with 1 layer of Clear Wax, and then Dark Wax over half. If you want to tone down the “Dark” compared to what you see in my photo => in a separate container, cut the Dark Wax with Clear. Perhaps 50:50 or even 25:75.
Don’t forget when purchasing Chalk Paint® Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan- to consider purchasing her Clear Wax also. Annie’s paint and wax were created to partner perfectly together! The paint itself will harden but the wax will truly protect it! The wax does completely harden and it becomes hard and is water repellent. It is a wonderful protective finish that you can buff once dry- to the sheen you desire.
