I am happy to offer the following workshops for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint — the amazing “you want it, you love it, you’ve got to have it” furniture paint that is taking the country by storm! You’ll soon discover that these aren’t just ordinary paint finishes but a foundation of specialized techniques from which you’ll learn to create your signature looks with modern materials and application methods. And create you will, under the guidance of expert instructors who are not only skilled and renowned artisans but also gifted teachers. Their enthusiasm and relaxed teaching style, combined with their willingness to share information, extensive on-the-job experience, and product knowledge, will draw you into a world of creative possibilities you didn’t even know existed.

Each workshop remains small enough to allow for one-on-one instructor interaction. Your instructor will teach you techniques, critique your work and encourage networking amongst students to spark excitement, creative ideas, and camaraderie.

The Purple Painted Lady offers Group Workshops and Private Lessons to teach you how to make your own garage sale, grandma hand-me-down, sitting-in-the-garage-for-far-to-long-waiting-to-get-the-courage-up, piece of furniture into a beautiful custom piece that will sing!!!!! I have both my store/workshop located at 208 East Main Street in Palmyra – and for LARGE parties- my home studio which is a 600 square foot refinished Barn with huge skylights located in Macedon.

“ReFunk YOUR Junk” Workshop

What does “ReFunk YOUR Junk” mean? You have a piece of furniture and perhaps it is just stained wood. You would rather have it look French Country or Shabby Chic. This workshop is for you! It will be a day workshop- with lunch included. 1 to 2 paint colors, brushes, lint free rags, sand paper, rubber gloves and waxes are supplied. All of Annie Sloan’s beautiful Chalk Paint colors are at your disposal…so there is no limitation – especially when you consider the dark wax available basically multiples all options by 2! Residual materials remain the property of The Purple Painted Lady. All projects must be approved by The Purple Painted Lady prior. Approval is first based on furniture size- think coffee table, small side dresser, occasional table. (not dining room buffet or hutches) Secondly, the complexity of your project. This is a group workshop so as so to maintain a balance of my time among all students- the scope of your project needs to be within the duration of the class

Note that the GROUP WORKSHOP is NOT a workshop where you will be doing landscape portraits, or being taught multiple whimsical patterns. This class is focused on using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and ending the day having a piece transformed.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint BASICS Workshop

In this hands-on introductory workshop you will learn the basics of working with Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and waxes. All supplies will be provided, we just ask that you wear clothing that you don’t mind getting paint on. We will cover one and two-color, creating a wash, distressing and basic crackle technique and we will teach you how to age and tone your finishes with clear and dark waxes and each student will create their hand painted color chart to take. Participants will leave the workshop with their own sample boards and the confidence and skills to tackle their own projects.

CLASS SIZE: The class capacity is a maximum of 6 people and a minimum of 3- exceptions may be made based on my schedule- however, this would not set a precedent.

DURATION: This workshop runs between 3 to 4 hours. Please try to get here at least 15mins prior to class starting.

HOW TO MAKE A SILVER TRAY INTO A CHALK BOARD

Registration is required to reserve a spot. Since I don not require a deposit and will need to turn people away due to limited spots- I ask kindly…… that if there is a change in your plans after registering – please let me know as far in advance as possible. You supply the silver tray- I will supply the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

DURATION: This workshop runs a little over 2 hours. (yes- there are times we are watching paint dry) There is a Chinese Take Out place right next door to me- feel free to order and bring it here! Recruit a girlfriend to come with you and relax! And seriously- when is the last time you actually relaxed?!

Silver Tray Chalk Boards make great gifts! They also are very sophisticated looking when used welcoming guests to a party, like a dinner party at your home- or even for a formal affair – like a wedding or shower. Here is a suggestion! SHOP VOA’s or Salvation Army and pick up old trays for next to nothing!

 ONE BRUSH STROKE Painting Workshops! ~ STROKE OF GENIUS! (this would make a GREAT bridesmaid party or Girl’s Night Out!!!!! – BYOB of wine and munchies and make a party of it!)

These will be based on seasonal craft projects…such as heading toward the Holidays- here are some examples……painting a faux pumpkin or as we approach December – painting old Ice Skate in a whimsical design- in the spring- painting a house number plaque or a faux concrete bunny. Duration of the class will be about 2 to 3 hours. In most cases I will supply all the materials- except for example- the Ice Skate project- you would supply the ice skate of your choice (no hockey skates.)you would supply the ice skate of your choice (no hockey skates.) Cost is specific to each event – but price will vary and is based heavily on the materials…cost will be announced per class- but for some of the examples above could range between $35 to $85. In some cases- I may have pieces prepped (primed) before class to expedite the process.

DURATION: This project is obviously on a smaller scale since the class is only about 2 hours- however- the painting techniques could be used to do a larger piece – such as the buffet BEFORE & AFTER photos below.

  PRIVATE LESSON – THE BOMB~

The PRIVATE LESSON – THE BOMB class- is basically exactly what I will be covering in the Group Workshop- using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. But in the private lesson- all my time and attention is spent with you one on one while you paint and finish your piece with me helping – for example- you could be working on one side- and I on the other. HOWEVER- since I am focusing 100% of my attention on you- there will be more hands on help when it comes to the finishing process of your piece- such as choosing a distress, aged, antiqued finish. This would NOT be a lesson where I am teaching you painting techniques to paint landscapes, or detailed whimsical designs- but that is not to say- if we have extra time- I would not discuss those ideas and techniques! (BUT you should consider taking the the workshop called ONE BRUSH STROKE Painting since the technique will be the focus here- BUT on a smaller scale like a pumpkin versus a buffet! Keep in mind- it is the same technique though- and you can extrapolate to do a bigger piece.)

You select and purchase paint, wax and brush.

DURATION: This private lesson lasts anywhere from 4-5 hours. (this excludes travel time)

This is an excellent option if you would like to do more pieces in the future and are the type of person who asks lots of questions. A piece of furniture that could be done – could be a smaller hutch or buffet- a dining table. Dimensions and photo of piece must be sent to me prior- along with the design plan to ensure it fits into the parameters of this class.

BIRTHDAY Painting Parties

Starting for those ages 8 and older (my apologies- NO exceptions for littler one’s). Party will consist of an art craft such as painting a canvas portrait of themselves, or a sports theme, sunflower – or faux painting of a large letter (perhaps the initial of each of their first names.) Topic will be selected prior and price varies based on materials required. Each party participant will have their art as a keepsake from the party. Then- all will enjoy Birthday Cake (supplied by you from a certified bakery) and the ceremony of opening presents. The Purple Painted Lady will set up and clean up for a stress free celebration that you get to relax and enjoy!

CLASS SIZE: This party capacity would be for a maximum of 8 guests and a minimum of 5 – exceptions may be made based on my schedule- however, this would not set a precedent. In order to provide the maximum space for a parties we ask that there be a maximum of three additional non-painting guests (chaperones.)

DURATION: 2 hours and scheduled during non-store hours – Additional time available $25.00 per half hour

COST: Cost is $15 per party person. With a $50 deposit due at time of reservation. No call/ no show results in full loss of deposit.

INSPIRATIONAL ART WORKSHOPS FOR GIRL SCOUTS

This creative workshop was created by a Girl Scout who earned her Gold award and is focused to facilitate a dialogue specifically geared toward Girl Scouts and badge being earned. There is nothing like this offered any where around New York!

The workshops are focused on Self Esteem, The Power Of Words and Friendship. The girls will go through a series of discussions and during each phase….create a portion of an art piece using mixed media such as acrylics, typed words, personal photos, magazine cut outs – ultimately making a master piece they will take home to remind them of the important lessons learned while at the workshop. Workshops will last roughly 2 hours, a snack & drink will be included and the cost is $15 per girl. Ages 8 years old and up – sorry, no exceptions. Due to the intimacy of the discussions, workshop are purposely kept at a maximum of 10 girls and we request a minimum of 7 to attend. In efforts to accommodate all- we are available to coordinate mixing smaller troops together as so to achieve these numbers.
